NICL scam: Moonis shifted to rest house after life threat

Moonis Elahi relocated to sub-prison rest house after the approval of Punjab Government.

KARACHI:
Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) leader Moonis Elahi was shifted to a sub-prison rest house on Zarar Shaheed road in the wake of life threat posed to him, on Friday.

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) officer had requested the relocation of Elahi to a rest house, stating that his life was in danger. He was shifted after the Punjab Government’s approval.

Earlier today, the court ordered to Elahi on a 14 day judicial remand to Camp Jail in the National Insurance Company Limited (NICL) scam case.

A judicial magistrate on March 28 had extended the physical remand of Moonis Elahi for four days in the scam case, after the FIA told the court that it was examining his foreign bank accounts containing Rs420 million.

Elahi was arrested on March 17 after the Lahore High Court (LHC) had dismissed his application for bail in the National Insurance Corporation Limited (NICL) scam and ordered his immediate arrest.

A division bench headed by Chief Justice Ijaz Ahmed Chaudhry passed the order after Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Additional Director General Zafar Qureshi told the court that Elahi needed to be taken into custody so Rs420 million that he had misappropriated in the scam could be recovered.
