HYDERABAD: Carrying on with its campaign against Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz [PML-N]-led federal government, Pakistan Peoples Party's [PPP] provincial leadership staged a sit-in in Mirpurkhas district on Thursday.

A large number of supporters gathered at MA Jinnah Road, condemning the alleged atrocities of the PML-N, resulting in shortage of water and gas in Sindh and excessive power cuts. Supporters and workers shouted the slogan 'Go Nawaz Go'.

"Mian sahab [Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif], don't test the people of Sindh," shouted provincial minister Nisar Khuhro, PPP Sindh chapter's president, as he spoke the crowd sitting under a tent. “They [know] very well how to confront the injustices of [PML-N] governments.”

The PPP leader held the PML-N-led government responsible for the load-shedding and water and gas shortages. He said the federal government has failed to live up to its promise of reducing the power cuts. "[Nawaz's] claims have proven wrong. [PML-N] couldn't control [Water and Power Development Authority] WAPDA."

Khuhro reiterated his party's stance over the joint investigation team [JIT] constituted on the apex court's order to investigate the PM’s family and demanded that the JIT's proceedings should not be kept secret.

"Nawaz Sharif has pushed Sindh 60 years back," alleged Senator Aajiz Dhamra. He accused the power distribution companies of sending heavy electricity bills to consumers in rural areas while depriving the people of electricity supply for a large part of the day.

Journalist manhandled

Meanwhile, a brother of PPP MPA Khairunnissa Mughal, with the support of other workers, allegedly roughed up the Hyderabad bureau chief of a private TV channel, Sanjay Sadhwani, in front of party leaders at the sit-in in Mirpurkhas. According to Sadhwani, he was filming PPP workers using hand fans to cool off Khuhro and other leaders. “Aurangzeb Mughal, [Khairunnisa's brother], came over to me and asked to stop the recording." Sadhwani said he later introduced himself as a journalist who has come to Mirpurkhas to report on the PPP's sit-in. Minutes later, Mughal came back along with other workers and manhandled Sadhwani.
