KARACHI:
The goods carriers' strike continued for the third day as the deadlock between the government and Transport Goods Association couldn't be resolved.
All the goods carriers went on strike in protest against the restriction imposed by the Sindh High Court [SHC] on the movement of heavy vehicles within the city's jurisdiction on Tuesday.
Goods transporters stage strike
The Sindh High Court [SHC] directed on Tuesday the transport and traffic authorities to ensure that movement of heavy vehicles was not allowed in Karachi at any time. This excludes water tankers or, in special cases, vehicles carrying commodities for daily use. The SHC also directed the traffic authorities to submit details of road accidents that took place since the beginning of the current year in which heavy vehicles were involved.
Karachi-wide: Heavy traffic banned from 6am to 11pm
Talking to The Express Tribune, Transport Goods Association Chairperson Anwar Somroo said there is a hearing on the case in the SHC on Saturday and until then they are not going to move their vehicles. The government is helpless in front of the SHC decision, he said.
