LAHORE: A married couple’s spat has reached the district and sessions court after the husband sought his wife’s arrest through the Federal Investigation Agency for obtaining a NADRA CNIC which stated she was single. He also asked that she be placed on the Exit Control List (ECL).

The petitioner claimed his wife submitted false documents to the NADRA office and succeeded in obtaining her identification card by mentioning her father as the guardian.

Muhammad Ahsan filed a petition at an additional district and sessions judge’s court, saying he married Lubna Saleem on February 18, 2010 and the two had a daughter named Shanzay Ahsan on September 11, 2012.

Ahsan told the court that the marriage was against the wishes of his in-laws, but relations later normalised with them. He said after his wife went to meet her family in Dubai, the relatives encouraged her to prepare a forged divorce certificate to get a CNIC which stated that her father was the guardian.

According to the complaint registered by Muhammad Ahsan against his wife with the FIA and record available with NADRA, Lubna Saleem submitted a divorce certificate on the basis of which her CNIC was issued.

Upon verification of the said certificate from Bakkar Mandi union council, they learnt that the divorce certificate was forged. He complained to the court that FIA officials seemed reluctant to arrest his wife despite the fact that she had not obtained pre-arrest bail in this case. He also requested that the court direct FIA officials to arrest Lubna and put her name on the ECL, apart from canceling the woman’s passport. The judge sought comments from the FIA director.
