ISLAMABAD: Police have arrested 46 beggars during last 24 hours with an objective to curb the menace. The adults were booked under the Vagrancy Act, while the child beggars were sent to shelter homes and protection centres. SSP Islamabad Sajid Kiani had ordered action against beggars and their handlers and also initiated legal process by registering FIRs against them. He directed shifting child beggars to shelter homes and protection centres for their proper upbringing and to make them responsible citizens. This social evil needs to be checked, Kiani said. People backing the professional beggars would be dealt with, he said. The SSP has formed specials squads to discourage street beggars and also reviews their performance on daily basis.
