Up in arms: Paramedical staff threatens indefinite strike

LAHORE: Punjab paramedical staff has threatened to go on an indefinite strike across Pakistan on Sunday if the government of Balochistan does release their arrested peers in that province.

To record their protest, they gathered outside the Services Hospital in large numbers and shouted slogans against the Balochistan government. Office bearers of the Young Doctors Association and members of the WAPDA union also joined hands with them as they believed the Balochistan government, instead of accepting democratic demands, used unfair means to silence these paramedics.



“Those who were arrested are in the hundreds,” commented Punjab Paramedical Staff Chairman Yousuf Billa, “In a way, the government cannot silence the voice of workers.”

He said activists are now mobilising for an indefinite strike and added the government only has 24 hours for the release of their peers.
