UPPER DIR: A minor girl and her mother died and five others suffered injuries when children accidentally detonated a grenade in Nihag Dara village, Upper Dir on Friday.

A senior police official told journalists that children had found a live grenade on the street and brought it home believing that it was a toy. They pulled out its pin and the explosion killed a minor girl and her mother.

The girl's father and three other children too were injured in the blast.

A neighbour was also injured when the wall of his house collapsed because of the explosion's impact. The injured were admitted to the district headquarters hospital, where they are in a serious condition.

Police have completed their initial report of the incident.

In February this year, a child was killed and three others were injured when their vehicle hit a remote-controlled bomb in Arang Tehsil of the Bajaur tribal region.
