Cab-hailing service Uber has launched its food delivery service in India. UberEats made its debut in Mumbai on Tuesday, May 2.
Introduced in 2014 in California, United States, UberEATS currently operates in 78 cities around the world.
San Francisco gets a taste of robotic food delivery
Customers can use the UberEATS application to place orders for food. Uber has collaborated with 200 restaurants in the city. It is charging Indian Rupees 15 per order via PayTM e-wallet.
The UberEATS application features categories such as 'popular in the area,' 'restaurants that can deliver quickly,' and more. Users can also search for restaurants by cuisine, dish and name using the ‘discover’ section. The app also filters restaurants according to delivery time, price, as well as dietetic limitations.
"Mumbai is home to a booming food industry with a vibrant food culture offering both global and local cuisines. The introduction of UberEats in India, with Mumbai as the first city, is a major step in our global expansion and showcases our commitment to the region," Bhavik Rathod, Head of UberEats India, said in a statement.

Further, the app instructs delivery persons to transport the food to the accurate address and also delivers instructions for parking the delivery vehicle.
UberEats will be competing with food delivery services such as FoodPanda, Swiggy and Zomato in India. Ola, Uber’s rival in India, also experimented with food delivery, but its platform was closed after only 12 months of business.
