Lahore ready for Rs100m street lights makeover

Tender floated for procurement and installation of new lights across the city

LAHORE: The Lahore Metropolitan Corporation (LMC) has floated a tender worth Rs100 million for procurement and installation of new street lights across the provincial capital.

The municipality has also decided to release Rs30 million to each deputy mayor for revamping the street infrastructure in their jurisdictions Lahore Mayor Col (retd) Mubashir Javed made these announcements while addressing the fourth session of the district assembly on Saturday.

The session, which started late amid acute mismanagement, representatives of both the ruling and opposition parties shouted slogans in support of their leaders.

Addressing the district assembly representatives, the mayor directed all deputy mayors to pull together demands of their chairmen and vice-chairmen about requirements for new street lights, construction and maintenance of streets.

He directed the local bodies representatives to monitor the pace and quality of development works in their areas and make sure that quality must not be compromised under any circumstances.

Instead of 40 watts, Mubashir pointed out, the municipality has decided to use 80-watt energy saver bulbs for street lights and using quality material for durability. Tenders will be opened on May 6 after which procurement and installation will start.

The mayor also directed the LMC members to make sure public servants were performing their duties properly. Otherwise, their names with proper proof of negligence would be submitted to initiate official action against them.

For the first time in Lahore’s history, the LMC will issue Rs30-million worth contracts for different services at Lari Adda to help boost the corporation’s revenue.

Mubashir said the new district government system had been put in place and now it was the responsibility of the representative to make this system a success.
