Pakistani ambassador to Iran summoned over attack on border guards

Pakistan urged to adopt serious measures to arrest and punish the terrorists responsible

Pakistani ambassador to Iran Asif Ali Khan Durrani was summoned by Iran's Foreign Ministry on Friday to lodge a protest over the death of ten Iranian border guards, reported IRNA.

Spokesperson Bahram Qasemi said, "We strongly expect the Pakistan government to adopt serious measures for the arrest and punishment of terrorists,"

“Unfortunately, the Pakistani side of Iran’s borders are the most insecure ones and we expect Islamabad to honour its previous promises and prevent a repetition of such attacks,” Qasemi further told Durrani.



Durrani expressed sorrow over the incident and loss of lives and ensured that Iran's message would be conveyed to the Pakistani government.

The border guards were killed on Wednesday in clashes with outlaws near Pakistan border in the province of Sistan and Baluchestan.

In a statement carried on state media, Iranian police said, "The Pakistani government bears ultimate responsibility for the attack”.

Armed bandits, outlaws and drug dealers regularly attack security forces and border guards in southeastern Iran. Earlier this month, a commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) was assassinated by two terrorists in Sistan and Baluchestan.
