Mayor wants anti-encroachment drive to continue with ‘full zeal’

Enforcement Directorate conducts 65 operations, gives city a makeover

ISLAMABAD: Despite an appeal from the city’s traders, Islamabad Mayor and Capital Development Authority (CDA) Chairman Sheikh Anser Aziz on Friday directed that the civic agency’s ongoing anti-encroachment drive continue “with full zeal and devotion”.

The directive came during a meeting at CDA headquarters to review the progress of the drive over the past three weeks.



CDA’s Enforcement Directorate told the mayor on Friday that they had conducted 65 anti-encroachment operations from March 21 to April 13.

During the operation, several illegal constructions were demolished and encroachment removed including 10 illegally constructed kiosks, six illegally constructed rooms, four boundary walls, nine fruit and vegetable stalls and nine barber set ups.

Moreover, 971 encroachment items were also confiscated while fines worth Rs42,500 were imposed.

Enforcement director said that they had also carried out several operations against different movable and immovable encroachment and illegal construction all over the city in the past month including in F-10 Markaz where 50 to 60 sheds, which had been constructed illegally in front of the plazas were demolished. Moreover, six shops which had been built illegally in the open area of the market were also demolished.



The meeting was informed that several footpaths, blockages and partitions constructed in the verandas and other areas were razed. Furthermore, huge quantity of encroachment material was confiscated later on shifted to the F-9 Park store.
