Earlier in January, at least six labourers were feared dead as roof of an under-construction market building in Gujranwala caved in. Sources said the labourers were working on the under construction building when its roof collapsed, trapping them under the rubble in the city’s Model Town area. The reason of the incident could not immediately be ascertained. However, rescue workers reached to the scene and started efforts to pull out the labourers from the debris.

This is a developing story and will be updated accordingly.

Zaheer | 7 years ago | Reply Unfortunately people are responsible for this type of mishaps as they do not realize conditions of the buildings and construct floor over floors on guarders or iron rods. Some two months back balconies of two floors collapsed at Burns road and a minor girl was injured in the incident but now I have seen that the balconies have been reconstructed on the guarders from ground to 2nd floor of the building. In old city area of Karachi and specially in Burns road majority of the old buildings in dilapidated condition and residents and owners have built another floors through the same guarder system many buildings in the area are in dilapidated condition and God forbid any serious tragedy may be incurred. It is the responsibility of SBCA to conduct a survey of whole Karachi and specially old Karachi to save precious lives of the people, as Kharadar, Mithadar, Burns Road, Soldier Bazaar and Preedy areas are at the top of the list of this illegal construction thanks to the incompetent and corrupt officials of Sindh Building Control Authority. Now it is more important for Sindh government to issue directives for a survey report of old buildings and material being used in multi storey buildings of Karachi.
