LAHORE: The Faisalabad water and sanitation agency has joined hands with the Punjab University to work on research and develop wastewater treatment mechanisms through environmental biotechnology.

PU’s botany department and WASA Faisalabad signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Monday to establish industry-academia link to promote demand-driven applied research.

The institutions would provide customised solutions of municipal sewage treatment for bringing its pollution load well in compliance with the permissible limits set by Punjab Environmental Quality Standards (PEQS).

PU Vice-Chancellor Dr Zafar Mueen Nasir said collaborative research was needed to improve Pakistan’s water and sanitation conditions. According to the agreement, WASA would lead field surveys to selected sewage collection centres, facilitate installation of Constructed Wetland Treatment prototype at Chakera disposal station.
