Paediatric Ward Incharge Professor Dr Asghar Butt said in Pakistan, more than half of the children under five years of age were found underweight that corresponds to general malnutrition of proteins.
He added, “Nutritional problems are also one of the major reasons for low birth weight owing to the poor maternal nutrition, protein energy malnutrition, anemia, iodine deficiency disorders and other micronutrient deficiencies.”
He maintained maximum facilities would be provided to the children in Allied Hospital.
District Health Officer Nawazish Goraya said nutrition week would commence from April 10 and will continue till April 15. He added during the week, Lady Health Supervisors and Lady Health Workers would visit door-to-door and would educate women about various diseases.
Meanwhile, District Coordinator Dr Abdul Sattar Qureshi said during the nutrition week, at least 179,822 children would be provided treatment. He said 396 teams would also perform duty during nutrition week.
