MUZZAFFARABAD: British parliamentarians of the Conservative Party on Friday supported Kashmiris’ right to self-determination by demanding implementation of UN resolutions on Kashmir dispute.

They were of the view that this was the only way to bring peace and security in South Asia.

UK ruling party’s six-member delegation led by MP Rehman Chishti, who is from Patika Muzaffarabad, met President Sardar Masood Khan and Prime Minister Farooq Haider.

During the meeting, the British MPs said they also want to visit Indian Occupied Kashmir (IOK) and if they were not allowed by New Delhi then they would publish the report on Jammu and Kashmir dispute in London. The MPs said the UN should send the commission to IOK to access the current situation.

“I think UK MPs should visit the region and see how the Kashmiris suffer at the Line of Control when Indian forces violate ceasefire agreement and target innocent civilian population,” he said. “It is time for the UN to establish a fact finding mission that can visit both Srinagar and Muzaffarabad to access the situation.”

Chishti said Kashmiris are peace-loving people and they deserve to be given basic rights which have been snatched by the Indian government since the last more than seven decades.

The other MPs jointly said that both the people in AJK and Pakistan are on one-page on the Jammu and Kashmir dispute. The delay in settling the Kashmir dispute for the last 70 years is a question mark for the performance of UN. People can ask that what UN has done for this core issue that is a potential threat to the South Asian countries’ peace.

They said besides Chishti, they will continue to raise voice for the people of IOK.

They said that it is the right of the people of Kashmir to decide about their future and they will convey this message to the concerned quarters in London.

“Kashmir needs immediate solution and in this connection reasonable people in India, UK and Pakistan should come forward to bring peace in the region once and for all,” said Chishti.

The other MPs were Matthew, Mark, Pawsey, Henry Smith and Nigel Huddleston. All of the UK MPs were visiting Pakistan on the invitation of National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq. During Muzaffarabad visit, they met the Kashmiri refugees of 1989 settled in refugee camps and heard the tales of their painful migration from IOK to Azad Kashmir.

Earlier, both the president and PM briefed the MPs about the rising human rights violations in IOK where Indian forces were using pellet guns to blind the young people of Kashmir who had been demanding freedom from Indian rule.
