For better management: BIEK seeks services of ex-controller

Sitting official expresses inability to handle process of upcoming exams

KARACHI: The acting controller of examinations of Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK), Muhammad Jafar, has written a letter to the chairperson, saying the expertise of former deputy controller of examinations should be used for the upcoming annual examinations.

The letter, which is available with The Express Tribune, was written to the chairperson of the board, Inam Ahmed. In the letter, Jafar said he never got involved in the examination matters during his service, which is why former deputy controller Syed Liaquat Ali should be approached for help in the process.



The duties for which he has asked help for are related to the upcoming annual examinations, which will begin in the end of April. These issues include deciding of examination centres, finalising centre control officers and vigilance teams, distribution of question papers, coordination with relevant centre authorities for security measurements and providing furniture for examination centres.

He has further proposed to the chairperson to pay Rs1,750 per day to the former deputy controller for a period of three months for his services. In his letter, he has also requested the chairperson to direct the secretary or the administration to solve the issue of lack of security guards in the premises of BIEK. Jafar added he will not be responsible for any mishaps, if anything happens at the board office.

Jafar was given the charge of the acting controller of examinations on March 9 this year, when Imran Khan Chishti was transferred from the post of the controller. At that time, Jafar was the deputy secretary and was asked to take the charge of acting controller. Initially, he refused due to his poor health. However, he later assumed the charge of acting controller on March 10.



The first phase of the intermediate exams for science, commerce and home economics groups will begin on April 28. More than 0.2 million students will appear for their annual examinations from different groups and faculties.

Meanwhile, the BIEK chairperson said they will look into security demanded by the acting controller. Just like last year, he said, help will be taken from the former controller for the upcoming annual exams. The board took help from Chishti last year, who was not the controller at that time, Ahmed said, adding that this year Ali's services can also be taken.

Ahmed also said the annual examinations will be held on the announced dates. "We have completed all the necessary arrangements and the board will hold a press conference a week before the examinations," he told The Express Tribune.
