KARACHI:
The Sindh High Court (SHC) issued on Wednesday notices to Malir SSP Rao Anwar and others on a petition accusing him of kidnapping the son of former police officer Niaz Ahmed Khoso.

A two-judge bench, headed by Justice Muhammad Shafi Siddiqui, gave 10-day time to the provincial home secretary, the Sindh IG, Anwar and others for filing their comments.

Former SSP Niaz Khoso told the judges that his son, Mehrab Khan Khoso, was kidnapped near Bahria Town on March 28 while returning to the city from Sukkur. He alleged that Anwar, along with 20 to 25 other armed men in an armoured personnel carrier and six police vehicles, took his son away. Anwar also threatened him of dire consequences, he added.

Rao Anwar gets clean chit

The petitioner said he immediately reported the matter on police helpline 15 and the SHO of Gadap police station but no action was initiated to recover his kidnapped son. Later, he added, the district and sessions judge of Malir directed the SHO of Gadap police station on his application to register an FIR against Anwar and his team members.

The former SSP explained that his son, who is a sub-inspector in the Anti-Encroachment Force (AEF), had gone along with other AEF staff to remove encroachments from the state lands in Scheme 33 within the limits of the Sachal police station. The raid was conducted in connection with an FIR registered against land grabbers under the anti-encroachment laws.

He said the raiding team, comprising the SHOs of the anti-encroachment police stations of Zone-I and Zone-II, approached the area DSP, Khalid Khan, and Sachal SHO Inspector Nasir Afridi for police assistance in their anti-encroachment operation. However, the two police officials refused to extend any assistance and also got the anti-encroachment operation stopped in connivance with the land grabbers named in the FIRs.

The former police officer told the judges that the abductors of his son are notoriously famous for their illegal activities such as staged encounters, extrajudicial murders, enforced disappearances, land grabbing, extortion and other heinous crimes in Karachi.

Therefore, he pleaded that the court to direct the home secretary, IG, Malir SSP, Gadap SHO and others to produce Mehrab in the court.

After initial hearing, the bench issued notices to the respondents to file their comments within 10 days when the matter will be taken up again.
