MULTAN: Mitro police has arrested a man for attempting to kill his one-year-old son in Melsi on Saturday.

Police said Khalid Hussain, 33, a resident of Mausa Sandhal, tried to kill his son with a knife while the child named Ghulam Abbas was asleep on Friday night. The child started crying when his mother woke up and saved him. However, the child suffered several bruises on his neck and arms. He was shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital, Melsi from where he was referred to Nishtar Hospital, Multan.

Doctors at the Nishtar Hospital said the condition of the child was critical due to loss of blood and the next 48 hours were very crucial for his life. Police said the initial investigation revealed Khalid was suffering from some psychological disorder and this was the second time he attacked his son. However, a close relative of the child, on condition of anonymity, told The Express Tribune that the child was a transgender and Khalid considers him a shame for his family, thus he wanted to kill him. Police arrested the accused and said a case has been registered at Mitro police station on the complaint of child’s uncle Mudassir Hussain and further investigation of the matter was underway.
