KARACHI: Former Pakistan Cricket Captain Shahid Afridi visited the Edhi Centre on Thursday morning to launch the Pakistan leg of the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 Nissan Trophy Tour, where he also paid tribute to late philanthropist Abdul Sattar Edhi.

The trophy was displayed at the Edhi Centre in order to honour Edhi. Afridi met the late philanthropist's widow, Bilqees Edhi, and son, Faisal Edhi, saying that the mission of the great Edhi sahib should be supported and continued with passion.

Afridi lauded the Pakistan Cricket Board for starting the trophy tour from the Edhi Centre as the late philanthropist worked tirelessly for the benefit of the country. He added that Edhi taught us about how to serve the nation and humanity and we must all follow his path.

He added that it felt good to visit the place from where Edhi used to run this great organisation that has served humanity free of any discrimination. The cricketer also interacted with the children at the Edhi Centre.

He was accompanied by officials of the Pakistan Cricket Board and International Cricket Council. Later in the day, test batsman Younis Khan took the trophy to Karachi. Speaking to the media, Khan said the Pakistani team could easily compete with any team in the world and could also win the champion's trophy. He asked his fans to pray that he completes his 10,000 test runs as early as possible as it will be a gift for the nation.
