FIA initiates inquiry as artwork worth millions goes 'missing' from PNCA

Investigation began following inspection of stock when 134 pieces of art worth millions were discovered missing

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has started a formal inquiry into the alleged theft of artwork and precious antiques from Pakistan National Council of Arts (PNCA).

The investigation began following the inspection of stock conducted by the Ministry of Information, Broadcasting and Cultural Heritage. Director FIA will supervise the probe.

The initial inquiry suggested that 134 pieces of art worth millions of rupees went missing, including the famous miniature "Ramchand and Lakshman" painted by Ustad Allah Ditta, as well as "Half Kali Davi and Half Mahadev" by Ustad Bashratullah, both of which were over a century and a half old.



It is rumoured that the missing artwork has been gifted to influential people or sold at a high price in the black market.

Interior minister Chaudhry Nisar has directed the FIA to recover the missing paintings, terming them a national treasure.

PNCA is an organisation tasked with the promotion and conservation of the country's culture and heritage.
