LAHORE: Lahore police will soon formally initiate a newly developed smartphone app to promote community policing and improve liaison between the law enforcers and local government representatives.

‘Local Eye – Tahafuz Mil Jul Kar (Together for Security)’ will be launched on March 23, announced Lahore CCPO Amin Wains during a meeting with parliamentarians at Punjab Safe Cities Authority office in Qurban Police Lines on Saturday.

Wains said the purpose of the software was to bring the local government representatives in the mainstream. The app would help improve coordination with the elected councillors and given them an opportunity to communicate the problems of citizens to police in an effective manner.

The elected representatives will also be able to arrange meetings with police officers in an organised and easy way.

The database server of Local Eye has been stationed at the CCPO Office while the Punjab Safe City Authority will house a sub-office.

DIG Investigations Chaudhry Sultan, DIG Security Dr Moen, SSP Admin Rana Ayyaz Salim, SSP Athar Ismail, SSP Investigations Ghulam Mubashir Maikan, CTO Rai Ijaz Ahmad, Environment Minister Zakia Shahnawaz, MPAs Mian Munshi, Chaudhry Shahbaz and Mehar Mushtaq among others were present at the meeting.

Minister Zakia appreciated the efforts of police to resolve problems of citizens on priority basis and also lauded the law enforcers for helping in successfully staging the PSL final in Lahore. Contributions of Rana Ayyaz Salim in developing the Local Eye software were also appreciated.

At the end of the meeting, SSP Athar Ismail briefed the parliamentarians about monitoring and other functions of Punjab Safe City Authority.
