Cop takes four robbers down with him

KARACHI:
One policeman and four robbers were killed in an encounter in Ahsanabad on Saturday.

The Sohrab Goth police received a call for help from a resident of Ahsanabad around 4 pm. The resident told them that his house was being robbed at that very moment. By the time the police reached his house, the robbers had left. However, they were able to pursue the robbers, upon which the six-member gang started shooting at the police, said Sohrab Goth SHO Ghulam Ahmed Sheikh.

The officers retaliated and the crossfire continued for more than half an hour, witnesses reported. Assistant Sub-Inspector Abdul Hameed Khoso was killed in the fight. Khoso hailed from Larkana. The four men killed were identified as Zahid, Nisar, Ishtiaq and Tehseen. The police also managed to arrest an injured robber, Amanullah, while the other man managed to escape. Police seized five TT pistols and five motorcycles from the robbers. Crime records of the killed robbers have not been found yet, Sheikh said.

Meanwhile, according to Superintendent Police Rao Anwar, the six men were part of an organised group. They were not, however, affiliated with any banned militant outfit. The bodies of the deceased were taken to Abbasi Shaheed hospital for autopsies. Amanullah was also taken to hospital for treatment. Dr Sheraz, the medico-legal officer at Abbasi Shaheed hospital, told The Express Tribune that the four robbers received bullets in the head, chest and neck. “The ASI was hit in the face,” he added.
