KARACHI: The Pakistan Muslim League - Functional (PML-F) has sought the help of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) - Pakistan in regaining the constituency in Sanghar that it lost after its lawmaker crossed the floor joining ranks with the ruling Pakistan Peoples Party.

Headed by PML-F’s provincial parliamentary leader Nand Kumar, a delegation called on the MQM- Pakistan team, led by his counterpart and leader of opposition in the Sindh Assembly, Khawaja Izharul Hassan, at the latter's makeshift political headquarters in PIB Colony on Tuesday.

In the talk with media after the meeting, MQM's Hassan said his party will soon announce its decision after consultation with its Coordination Committee about being a part of the PML-F camp for the by-election in PS-81 constituency, comprising Sanghar and parts of Mirpurkhas.

Downslope?: Another PML-F stalwart defects to PPP

The constituency fell vacant recently after Jam Madad Ali, the nephew of former Sindh chief minister Jam Sadiq Ali, joined the PPP. This was the second blow to PML-F in the last year as earlier Imtiaz Sheikh, an apparently stronger political figure, jumped the ship to join the ruling party.

The statements made by the leaders of both the parties gave an impression that they may be considering forging an opposition to the PPP in Sindh as it enjoys the required two-third majority in the legislative assembly.

MQM-Pakistan leader Aminul Haq told The Express Tribune that the matter was discussed but the final decision has not been made as yet.

PML-F leader Kumar commented that his party had sought partnership of MQM over provincial legislative matters in assembly as well as in the upcoming by-election in Sanghar. "We have a good working relationship and we will continue this."
