Sindh to approach Belarus for setting up tractor plant

Expresses interest in cooperation in varying sectors

KARACHI: The Sindh government will approach Belarus with a request for setting up a tractor manufacturing plant in the province.

It was decided in a meeting between Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah and a six-member delegation of Belarus, led by Industries Minister Vitaly Vovk and included Deputy Culture Minister Vasilij, at the Chief Minister House.

Shah expressed the Sindh government’s interest in working with the Belarus government and its private sector in different sectors such as manufacturing, solid waste management, coal mining, energy production and exchange of cultural delegations.

He emphasised that there were vast opportunities of investment in Sindh and said the proposed tractor manufacturing plant would be able to tap markets across Pakistan. “Tractors of Belarus are very popular in Sindh,” he said.

Shah called coal-mining machinery of Belarus the most successful while pointing out that the Sindh government was a partner in the Sindh Engro Coal Mining Company, which was using heavy machinery on the Thar coal and power project.

The chief minister told the visiting guest that Chinese engineers working on the Thar project had already visited Belarus to inspect the mining machinery and now they were planning to visit Iran, where Belarus machinery was being used, to witness the demonstration.

The industries minister of Belarus said they normally provided machinery with engineering services, which was a combined package.
