Women empowerment: Top aide says K-P to adopt bill on domestic violence

PESHAWAR: A senior adviser to the provincial chief minister has said that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf-led government has taken exemplary steps for women empowerment.

“Women can take decisions since they have been given representation in the local governments,” said Adviser to Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Mushtaq Ghani at a function marking International Women’s Day celebrations at the chief minister house on Wednesday.

Comparing the Domestic Violence Bill-2016 of Punjab with that of K-P, Ghani said there were several flaws in the bill framed by the government of Punjab. The bill will soon be passed by the K-P Assembly, he said.

K-P Assembly’s Deputy Speaker Mehertaj Roghani, while speaking on the occasion, said: “The government will try its level best to pass at least 10 bills on issues relating to women.”

Veteran politician and ANP-Wali president Begum Naseem Wali Khan said it was a wonderful day for her, adding she was honoured to be invited by the K-P government to attend the gathering.
