GILGIT: The government of Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B) has decided to regularise services of all contractual doctors who had completed two years services in the territory.

Services of contractual doctors who have completed their two-year-term at the G-B public healthcare facilities are being regularised to overcome shortage of doctors in the region.

According to a notification issued from the Office of Secretary Health G-B, after the approval of special pay package by G-B Chief Minister Hafizur Rehman, an account has been opened in the National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) for provision of special salary packages to these doctors.

Annually, Rs 170 million would be paid to these doctors under the head of special salaries package by the G-B government. This would ensure presence of doctors in public sector hospitals besides provision of better health service delivery to patients and help address problem of shortage of doctors.
