MANSEHRA: A woman was killed on Monday when a stray bullet hit her in the head in a remote village of Mansehra, police said.

Pervez Bibi, 38, went to milk buffaloes in their animal farm when the bullet pierced through her skull, Saddar police quoted the woman's husband Mumtaz Ahmed as saying.

Ahmed said that the family members went in search of the mother-of-five when she did not return for about an hour and found her body at a short distance from the farm.

Six-year-old boy dies in celebratory fire on New Year's Eve

The woman's husband decided against registering a first information report (FIR) as he ruled out an enmity as a motive for the incident. The police, however, said that aerial firing is a criminal offence and that they are searching for anyone involved in the incident.

On January 1, a six-year-old boy fell victim to aerial firing on January 1 when unidentified youths resorted to indiscriminate fire to mark the New Year. He was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where he died during treatment.

Every year, hundreds of people are injured and many are killed due to the customary practice of 'celebratory' firing into the air.
