SUKKUR: The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) Sukkur arrested another suspected terrorist belonging to a banned outfit from Numaish Road near Old Sukkur on Wednesday night.

CTD Sukkur SP Irfan Samo confirmed the arrest of Maulvi Muhammad Ali to The Express Tribune and said he belonged to the banned Jaish-e-Muhammad.

According to him, the terrorist was trained in Afghanistan and was planning a terrorist activity before his arrest. Further investigations are under way, he added, saying that he was produced in court on Thursday by the police, as they sought his remand.

Speaking about the suspected terrorist arrested a few days ago, he said Khalil alias Jalil’s custody has been remanded to the CTD and during interrogation he admitted that he and his accomplices carried out bomb blast in Dargah Chizal Shah in Balochistan in 2005, which claimed around 35 lives and left 54 injured.

Jalil also confessed that after carrying out the Chizal Shah blast, they were planning to carry out a bomb blast in a mosque in Usta Muhammad.

According to him, when his accomplices were building a bomb in Saleem Colony, Usta Muhammad, the bomb accidentally detonated, injuring three of his accomplices.

The SP said the terrorist has already been awarded the death penalty by the anti-terrorism court in absentia. Further investigations are under way, he said.
