Faheem Sajid Pathan, an Afghan national arrested by the Shikarpur police from Khanpur on February 18, was a suicide bomber, the police revealed on Wednesday.
After initial investigations, he has been handed over to the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) Karachi. Larkana DIG Abdullah Shaikh was quoted as saying this on electronic media on Wednesday.
According to his statement being aired on television, the Khanpur police had on February 18 arrested Pathan, who did not possess any documents.
Sehwan bomber captured on camera, police claim
During initial investigations, the suspect had told the police that he belongs to Kabul, is a motorcycle mechanic by profession and was going to Karachi for treatment.
According to his statement, the Larkana DIG claimed that Pathan was a suicide bomber who speaks Tajik language. According to the DIG, the suspect crossed into Pakistan from Landi Kotal and then travelled to Khanpur.
No confirmation
To confirm the news, The Express Tribune attempted to contact the Larkana DIG, who was neither available on call nor on text messages. When contacted, Suhail Sangi, who is the public relations officer of the DIG, expressed ignorance about the matter. He got The Express Tribune in touch with the DIG’s personal staff officer, Ehsan Abbasi, who also expressed ignorance. He shared that the DIG is in Dadu for a meeting.

Meanwhile, Shikarpur SSP Zeeshan Siddiqui was unavailable. Finally, Khanpur SHO Muhammad Ayub Dogar said Pathan was arrested more than 10 days ago and was handed over to CTD Karachi. “I know nothing about the DIG’s today’s statement to the electronic media,” he maintained.

Law enforcement agencies sprang into action after the deadly Sehwan bombing on February 16. On February 18, eight Afghan nationals were detained by the Jacobabad police. After thorough investigations, five of them were released while three were kept under interrogation.
