Glowing tributes: Faiz Ahmed Faiz remembered
Dr Rukhsana says Faiz was an icon of peace
LAHORE:
The work of Faiz Ahmed Faiz, one of the most beloved poets in the country, is considered the backbone of development of Pakistan’s literature, arts and poetry, said Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) Vice-Chancellor Dr Rukhsana Kausar on Monday.
While speaking at an event organised by the LCWU Urdu Literary Society to remember Faiz, she said the poet maintained the need to promote peace and harmony and believed that writers from the subcontinent should promote this cause. “Along with Allama Iqbal, Faiz is often known as the Poet of the East,” she added.
Dr Rukhsana said that Faiz was an icon of peace. “People like Faiz and Picasso lit the world with their beliefs in peace and harmony,” she added.
LCWU Urdu Department Chairperson Humera Irshad said: “We can acknowledge, but not truly understand, the suffering of Faiz as personified in his poetry. His era marked the era of sensibility. He always said his pain was chartered for the causes of humanity.”
