LAHORE: A bench of the Lahore High Court on Wednesday allowed transferring the case of former Rawalpindi CPO Saud Aziz’s bail in the Benazir Bhutto murder case from the Rawalpindi bench to Lahore.

The accused had filed the application through a senior lawyer Khawaja Sultan, alleging that the authorities in the federal capital were influencing proceedings before the Rawalpindi bench, therefore, the bail matter be transferred to the principal seat of the LHC.

Saud Aziz and a SP Khurram Shahzad were arrested on Dec 22 last year after a lower court in Rawalpindi rejected their bail.

The police registered a case against Aziz and Shahzad, accusing them of dereliction of duty in the assassination of Benazir Bhutto in 2007.

While rejecting their bails, the Rawalpindi local court had said that it was their failure to protect the former prime minister.
