The student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, Islami Jamiat Talba (IJT), has distanced itself from clashes on the Quaid-e-Azam University (QAU) campus on Sunday, instead they termed it a clash between two groups over linguistic differences.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, IJTs’ Islamabad chapter chief Sohaib Usman said that the student group had nothing to do with the scuffle which had apparently left a few students injured.
He added that politics along linguistic lines was severely impacting the environment in the university.
Usman termed the presence of these groups on campus a threat to the country’s unity. He called for an immediate ban on such groups on campuses as he alleged that such groups and drug peddlers had support from the elements in the university administration. He added that the liberal and secular elements in the university were creating propaganda against IJT.
Some students from QAU had on Monday blocked the road leading to the university to protest against the alleged assault on some students by members of IJT on Sunday.
