Each year, several surveys are conducted to ascertain which cities and countries are the cheapest and most expensive. Recent research conducted in Bulgaria found that Sofia, its capital, is the cheapest city in the world for a short break.

Airport transfers company Hoppa, analysed a price index that included a night's stay in each city, a hotel, food, drink, entertainment and a taxi journey to find how each city ranked. For all of the aforementioned amenities it would cost a mere Rs4,970 for a night's stay in Sofia.
