Protest settled: Punjab government accepts teachers’ demands

ISLAMABAD: The Punjab Professors and Lecturers Association (PPLA) on Monday called off their protest after acceptance of their charter of demands by Punjab Higher Education Commission. The announcement was made here on Monday after successful negotiations between PPLA and Secretary Higher Education Punjab.

The authorities accepted the demand of PPLA to restore the previous 40-minute class timings instead of the new one-hour per class time period. The authorities also accepted to transfer the ACR report system to colleges’ directorate at divisional level instead of conducting it through centralized system. The Punjab government also withdrew the orders of transferring lecturers/professors to far flung areas. A joint committee comprising officials of education ministry and teachers’ representatives was also constituted to review the demand of teachers for a one-step up-gradation and time-scale.
