Employees protest against KESC management
Protesters complain the workers who were reinstated at KESC were not being given any work.
KARACHI:
More than a thousand employees of the Karach Electric Supply Company (KESC) staged a demonstration outside Karachi Press Club against company authorities on Monday.
The protestors complained that the 2,000 of the 4,700 workers who were reinstated at KESC were not being given any work.
The protesters accused the KESC authorities of forcing the workers to resign and blocked the road outside the press club.
Meanwhile, KESC officials denied all such allegations.
Earlier in the year, in an attempt to tighten its belt, KESC had laid off 4,300 employeeson January 19, after first offering them a golden handshake, which many refused.
Violent protests ensued and after government pressure built, KESC was forced to take the staff back this week.
