Unidentified assailants on Wednesday opened fire at the house of National Accountability Bureau's (NAB) deputy director in Gilgit-Baltistan.

According to sources, Abdul Majid was asleep when his house in Jutial area was attacked by unidentified assailants. The attack took place around 7:45am. No injuries were reported.

Police officials have registered a case against the unidentified men.

NAB officials have been investigating corruption cases in G-B, but attacking an official is the first incident of its kind.

NAB takes notice of official’s manhandling by accused family

Last year, NAB authorities took notice of an incident when a team of the anti-graft was assaulted by relatives of rental power project scam suspect Raja Babar Ali Zulqurnain, the son of former Azad Jammu and Kashmir president Raja Zulqurnain, during a search of his house.

NAB conducted the search after the accused divulged information during his physical remand regarding records relevant to the investigation into the rental power project case, said a press release issued.

The NAB team, which was accompanied by the local police and Mirpur Administration officials, was attacked by family members of the accused during the search. The injured NAB officials were taken to a local hospital for medical treatment. An FIR has been lodged at the local police station.
