Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) withdrew directives on clearing houses which led to spike in calling rates for overseas callers.

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) is fully committed towards promoting modern technologies and capacity building of Information Technology and Telecom sectors, said PTA Chairman Ismail Shah. “PTA had established Internet Exchange Point (IXP), in order to help reduce rates of domestic internet traffic,” said Shah. The primary purpose of IXP was to allow networks to interconnect directly, via the exchange, rather than through one or more third-party networks, he said. IT Minister Anusha Rahman had also stressed the policy, which had a critical one-point agenda; to connect the unconnected, was being strictly followed for improvement of connectivity in the country.
