KARACHI: World Cup Organising Committee CEO Danny Jordaan has taken a swipe at Brazil’s football manager Carlos Dunga for leaving Ronaldinho out of his preliminary roster.
“I sometimes think these coaches [believe] they are gods and are out to prove they can do anything they wish,” said Jordaan. “They become blinded by this sense of power. Ronaldinho, it must be said, is a soccer genius with talents enjoyed by few in the game, both past and present, and anyone with an insight into the sport must recognise this.”
According to Jordaan, Ronaldinho has now recovered from a slump of form. “Would any of the other 31 World Cup nations even have given a thought to not including a Ronaldinho in their squads had they been afforded the chance? “Certainly not. Now the World Cup itself will suffer and it’s all rather sad.”
AC Milan midfielder Ronaldinho was omitted from Dunga’s initial 23-man list which was announced on Tuesday. “Ronaldinho’s quality and capacity as a player is indisputable. I have to make a decision based on what happens on the field,” said Dunga. The 30-year-old Ronaldinho was the FIFA World Player of the Year in 2004 and 2005.
