SUKKUR: An anti-corruption establishment team raided the office of the director of primary education in Sukkur on Thursday and took into custody records pertaining to scholarships and development funds among other things. The team will make arrests after thoroughly checking the records.

The team led by circle officer Abdul Qadir Durrani and the civil judge and judicial magistrate raided the office of the director of primary education Sukkur and took into custody records from 2015.

Durrani told The Express Tribune that they have taken into custody records of scholarships and development funds as well as other records. “The raid was conducted following complaints of massive corruption at the office. If corruption is proved after going through the records then we will arrest the persons responsible,” he added.

Allegedly, repair and maintenance funds for schools that have been shut due to the absence of the teachers are being utilised on paper alone. Besides this, a large number of teachers and administrative staff are not performing their duties but are still drawing salaries on a regular basis.
