The TTP’s real agenda
The military, to many observers, seems to be sympathetic to the Taliban agenda.

DUBAI:
This is with reference to Asad Munir’s article of March 10 titled “The real agenda of the Pakistani Taliban”. I agree with the writer’s conclusion — the only problem is how to achieve the desired results, particularly when the military, to many observers, seems to be sympathetic to the Taliban agenda. Sri Lanka defeated the LTTE after many sacrifices but one important factor was that the army was committed to the cause and so was the political leadership. In Pakistan, the political leadership is subservient to the men in khaki. Salmaan Taseer and Shahbaz Bhatti are classic examples of where the political leadership has failed to defend its own.
