Biologics production: Construction of training centre at UVAS begins

The minister said vaccine production is necessary to prevent the fatal foot and mouth disease

LAHORE: The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore has started construction work on a training centre for biologics production, which would be completed in three years at a cost of Rs398.920 million at its  Campus, Pattoki.

Punjab Livestock and Dairy Development Department Minister Asif Saeed Manais inaugurated the construction work by performing the ground-breaking ceremony.

The minister said vaccine production is necessary to prevent the fatal foot and mouth disease. “Timely and quality vaccination is the only way to prevent diseases like FMD and this centre is a step forward in this direction,” he said.

UVAS Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha said the centre would initially have the capacity of producing four to five million doses of vaccines every year, while its capacity would be enhanced up to 70 million in future.
