KARACHI: Tremors were felt in different parts of Karachi Tuesday morning. According to the Pakistan Meteorological (Met) Department, the magnitude of the earthquake was recorded at 3.6 on Richter scale. The epicenter of the quake was in Karachi and its depth was 12 kilometres.

Karam Khan, a meteorologist specialising in earthquake studies and based at the Met office, informed that tremors were felt at 10:44 am. The jolts were felt predominantly in the Gulistan-e-Jauhar area of the metropolis, he claimed.

According to residents, the tremors were felt in Saddar too.

People rushed out of their houses and offices in panic. However, no loss of life or damage to property has been reported yet.

"When tremors occurred most of the students of microbiology department did not leave their class but the ones in a botany class were told to evacuate the building," said Iqra Saleem, a second-year student of the University of Karachi. "The jolt was quiet big however it lasted for a short time," she added.

However, another Amara Ashraf, whose office is located near PIDC, claimed that she did not feel anything.
