Sharmeen Obaid first-ever artist to co-chair World Economic Forum

The Academy Award winner will also feature in two key panel discussions

Academy Award winner Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy will co-chair the 47th World Economic Forum (WEF) annual meeting scheduled to begin from Tuesday.

The four-day meeting in Davos-Klosters, Switzerland, will convene more than 2,500 participants from nearly 100 countries to take part in over 300 sessions.

According to a statement, Sharmeen is the first artist ever to co-chair the forum’s annual meeting.

Established since 1971, the WEF is committed to improving the state of the world.

“It is a great honour to be the first artist ever to be given the opportunity to co-chair the prestigious World Economic Forum at Davos in 2017,” Sharmeen said. “…it is with great pride that I will be representing both the art community and my country, Pakistan!”

During the course of the event, the Hilal-e-Imtiaz recipient will attend the Crystal Awards; host a conversation with Karan Johar and feature in two key panel discussions.
