KARACHI: A former town nazim of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) - Pakistan was picked by law enforcement agencies on Friday night, claimed the party's coordination committee member and information committee head.

Former Jamshed Town nazim, Javed Ahmed, who was currently serving as a member of central executive committee as well as of ulema committee, was sitting outside his house in Bahadurabad when LEAs arrested him, said MQM leader Aminul Haq.

So far, more than 13 workers, including incumbent and former local bodies representative of the party have been taken into custody in past two days, he said, adding that these arrests are 'unlawful'.

"MQM-Pakistan is working for strengthening the country and believes that these arrests are totally illegal and immoral," he said while speaking to The Express Tribune. "Earlier, party's sector in-charges and committee members were picked up in different raids."

Meanwhile, activists belonging to the rival faction of the party, dubbed as MQM - London, are also being arrested. On Saturday, a group of women protested outside Karachi Press Club against what they termed were "illegal forced disappearances" of the party workers.
