Annual review: 71 murders recorded in Attock in 2016

Police also recovered more than Rs70 million from robbers and other alleged criminals

The Attock district witnessed 71 murders in the year 2016 just ended,  police said quoting official figures.

According to data collected from various precincts of the district, Attock police arrested 2,159 suspects and registered 1,154 cases during 2016.

In 2015, Attock police had registered 1,500 cases and arrested 2,084 alleged criminals.

As per the 2016 report, Attock police registered 71 cases of murder and arrested 136 suspected killers. At least 22 people were arrested on charges of rape and 20 for alleged involvement in abductions. However, no case of kidnaping for ransom was registered in the past year.


Regarding thefts and robberies, police said 27 cases of motorcycle theft were registered and 35 alleged bike-thieves were also arrested. Around 507 people were arrested for possessing illegal arms, 784 for drug possession and trafficking, while 559 gamblers were arrested in 79 cases of gambling.

Police also recovered more than Rs70 million from robbers and other alleged criminals.

The source said that in 2016 no case of kidnapping for ransom was reported however in 2015, two such cases were reported and 14 alleged kidnappers were arrested.
