ISLAMABAD: Officials at the airport in Islamabad on Friday returned a lost wallet to its rightful owner which had over 10,000 dirhams in it.

According to a statement released by the Civil Aviation Authority, Shabbir Momin had lost his wallet at the international departure lounge of Benazir Bhutto International Airport (BBIA) Islamabad while returning from Abu Dhabi on December 30.

The wallet had foreign currency worth 10,575 dirhams and a credit card from a UAE bank.

CAA facilitation officials found the wallet and handed it over to the passenger feedback and suggestion cell (PF & SC) for further action.

However, the wallet did not have an address or document to identify the owner of the wallet.

With no identification marks available, the CAA team used footage from the relevant CCTV cameras in the airport to track the owner. Immigration and UAE Bank were also contacted to trace the owner.

Officials finally identified the passenger as Shabbir Momin, a resident of the tribal areas adjacent to Dera Ismail Khan. Subsequently, the airport management contacted him to claim his wallet. BBIA Airport Manager Amanullah Alvi handed the wallet over on Friday.

Momin thanked the CAA management for tracking him and returning the wallet which contained his savings.

Prior to this incident, the CAA facilitation staff at BBIAP Islamabad had also recovered Rs30,000 from the Concourse Hall at the airport and returned the money to its rightful owner.
