Power project: ‘Sukhi Kenari to be launched soon’
K-P govt approves environmental assessment report.
ISLAMABAD:
The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) government has approved the environmental assessment report of the Sukhi Kenari hydel project while submission of performance guarantee by the sponsors will be completed soon, official sources told APP. The project on Kunhar River in Mansehra will generate 840 mw of electricity.
The project was held up since January 2009 as the K-P government had approached the courts over certain constitutional issues.
The total cost of the project is estimated at US $1.138 billion, the sources said, adding that the project would have annual generation capacity of 2,958 GWh while the tariff rate would be set at US ¢6.33. A 21.4 km headrace tunnel will be constructed for the “run of river” project, the sources said.
