KARACHI: Jamat-e-Islami (JI) Ameer Sirajul Haq called upon all Muslims on Sunday to create a new forum, parallel to the United Nations, to address the problems faced by the Islamic world.

He was addressing the Umat-e-Rasool march staged on Shahrae Quaideen to express solidarity with oppressed Muslims in Syria and Myanmar.

Siraj said if the United Nations Security Council “cannot move for 1.2 billion Muslims in the world, the bloc of Muslim countries must abandon the so-called world body”.

He also urged Muslim countries to develop a mutual market, educational syllabi and joint defence force.

Accusing the UN of hypocrisy, the JI chief wondered why international organisations were not even acknowledging the plight of Muslims.

“They only take action when they deem it necessary to protect the interests of world powers,” he said.

Thousands of people from all walks of life participated in the march. A large number of seminary and college students also attended the rally. Participants, including women and children, were carrying placards and banners, inscribed with slogans criticising the duplicity of Muslim rulers and apathy of international powers.

Siraj said the march was an expression of solidarity with the oppressed Muslims across the world, particularly in occupied Kashmir, Myanmar and Syria.

Highlighting the plight of Muslim women and children in Syria, he said they were subjected to rape, torture and execution.

Urging the government to play a proactive role, the JI chief Haq said that the march showed there was a spark of life within the Ummah.

Talking about the situation on the country’s Eastern borders, he said that blocking Pakistan’s water would amount to declaring war, adding that although the rulers were weak, the nation was able to face any difficulty.

According to him, his party had resolved to make 2017 as a year of struggle for ‘peaceful Islamic revolution’.

Proclaiming JI’s political agenda, he said that if it ever came to power, it would ensure social justice.

Chief of JI’s Sindh chapter Mairajul Huda and chief of its Karachi chapter Hafiz Naeemur Rehman also addressed the marchers.
