ISLAMABAD: Hours after senators called for a combing operation in and around the Quaid-e-Azam University (QAU) to tackle drug dealers and land grabbers, police and Rangers conducted a search operation around the varsity early on Saturday morning.

Security teams searched 60 houses and 15 kiosks and arrested nine persons after weapons were recovered from them. The weapons recovered included seven rifles and a pistol.

On Friday, the Senate Standing Committee on Interior had heard QAU Vice Chancellor Dr Javed Ashraf about the criminal elements on campus.
