In 2016: 2.1m tons of solid waste removed

LAHORE: The Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) removed around 2.1 million tons of solid waste from the city during 2016, said LWMC Managing Director Bilal Mustafa Syed on Thursday. He said the company received 38,095 waste related complaints on its helpline 1139 this year. Talking about annual performance of the company, he said the company finally closed Mehmud Booti dumpsite for dumping of waste in order to start its rehabilitation so that it is converted into a green park. He added that closing up Mehmud Booti and its rehabilitation would be a major step towards a cleaner and safer environment. The New Year would help bring more success and improvement in company’s efforts to modernise solid waste management system, he hoped.
